Valentine's Day

Holy cow, my kids were so hyped this morning!  I feel bad for teachers today... if my kids are any indication of how the day will go, they have our house times 30.

Anna and Lydia got to make Valentine boxes this year. Sometimes they make them at school or have certain specifications. This year, they said anything goes.

Anna wanted to make a semi truck. (Yeah, this is the girly girl of the century and she wanted a semi truck.) Our original plan didn't work and it ended up looking more like a bus than a semi truck so we went with it and she made a purple bus with red hearts.  **I** wouldn't have picked a purple bus, but I turned off my OCD self and let her go with it. She called it "The Love Bus" (she went around saying, "It's the looooove bus.")  She decided on bus #214 for February 14th. Pretty clever in my opinion.

Anna the Bus Driver. She put her picture on a big piece of tape to look like a window.

And the 4th graders are having a 50's sock hop/diner today for their Valentine's Day party. They were encouraged to dress up.  Grandma Kathi made her a poodle skirt and "saddle shoes" (white canvas shoes, painted black in the middle). Anna was bouncing off the walls with excitement this morning. She was so excited she told me couldn't even eat breakfast.  Then 10 minutes later said her tummy hurt.
Lydia is always thinking outside the box and is a little rebellious when it comes to holidays and goes against "the norm". (Takes after her dad!) She decided she wanted a carousel for her box. We went to pick out paper and I showed her all the pretty pink and red heart prints. Oh no! Not pink or red for Valentine's Day for Lydia! She insisted on yellow and purple.  I told her she should at least put some hearts on the horses so it would look a little like a Valentine's Day box. She reluctantly put a few hearts on the horses just to please me. I love that she likes to be original/unique and isn't afraid to do her own thing!

In case you're wondering, I don't have pics of the older kids - I guess they're too big for Valentine's Day. (Although I still gave them their traditional heart-shaped box of chocolates at breakfast). And no pics of Elizabeth or Caleb - they're sick right now and look awful. You'd just see pictures of snot and red eyes.

  1. Oh how cute. It almost makes me wish we had had to make boxes. Notice I say ALMOST. What did you use for the carosel?

It's all good that you have no pictures of the little ones... just keep telling yourself what you need to, to make you feel better. We all know who the chosen ones are.

At least you picked two and not just one like some moms LOL
