School 2012-13

We interrupt this program to bring you... I forget how that saying goes.  But I'm interrupting my posts about our trip so that I can still keep up with real life as it happens.  (Remember how I said I wouldn't advise going on a 19 day vacation?  This is one of the reasons why.  It's so hard to get back into real life and catch back up.)

Today is the first day of school for 5 of my kids.  Anna went yesterday for 6th grade orientation.  She went for 2 hours to figure out where her classes where and then came home.  Today's the real start of school for all of them.  Just a quick run-down on grades:
Nathan is a Junior (really?! a junior?  **I** remember vividly when I was a Junior and it doesn't feel like that long ago.  Crazy!),
Michael's a Sophomore (same incredulous feelings),
Katie's in 8th grade,
Anna's in 6th and so excited to be in middle school and in the same school as Katie,
Lydia is in 4th (that sounds so BIG for Lydia!),
and Elizabeth is in 1st and starts her first year of all day school.

They were all happy to go to school, but not as excited as usual.  I think it's because we are still bouncing back from vacation.  And because of our vacation, the summer seemed incredibly short.  Caleb is home with mom all day.  No middle-of-the-day, break-up-the-day-so-you-can't-get-anything-done Kindergarten run to the school this year!!!  Yay!  I told Caleb he could pick whatever he wanted to do with mommy today.  He decided he wanted to watch Cars 2 and eat string cheese.  Oookaay.  He knows I like the Cars movies and that I'm the only one besides him that likes them.  The big kids won't let him watch them much.  I don't know where the string cheese comes in.  Hungry I guess.  We watched Cars 2 and ate string cheese today.  Actually Caleb ate the string cheese (too early for me to eat cheese) and watched Cars 2 while I dozed by him on the couch. Early morning seminary also started today and 5am is already kicking my butt, especially since we were just on Vegas time last week, waking up at 10 central time (8 Vegas time).  So that's like 5 hours earlier that I had to get up today.  My body is in shock, but hopefully I'll adjust.  Going to bed earlier would probably help.

So they're off at school, Caleb is happily playing cars alone and I have some time to catch up on my blog.  YAY!
Nathan the Junior!
Michael tried to act annoyed about school because he knew it'd bug me.
I pretended to complain and then secretly took a pic of Happy Michael, proud of himself for driving mom crazy.
Katie just hasn't figured out how to smile on command.
Anna, looking a bit nervous about middle school to me, even though she said she wasn't.
Lydia got new high tops in typical Lydia fashion.  She insists on only wearing bright, colorful high tops every year for the past - 3 or 4 years.  I can't remember.  But I love it!  They're so Lydia!
We couldn't find the outfit I bought for Elizabeth for the first day of school.  So she insisted on wearing this dress and tennis shoes.  I told her that doesn't match very well and she said she didn't care.  She needed good shoes that wouldn't slow her down when she runs.  I foresee lots of fashion battles with her in my future.
Caleb wanted in on the action.  He's so silly!
